(sorry, only google translate… 🙁 )
After just over two years, I went back to New England, to Concord near Boston. The reason for the trip was the wedding of Nathan and Liza, and we stayed with Nathan’s parents two years ago, and after we have always been in touch, we were invited to the wedding and thus to our first American wedding. Of course we could not reject this 🙂
Anyone who thinks the US has become somewhat difficult since Trump, is wrong. The procedure for entry has neither improved nor deteriorated. We had only bad luck, that we had 2 large Arab families before us, which unfortunately took a little time, but we can only make it difficult to assess whether the entry for Arabs has been difficult or has always been totally exaggerated, but good. Finally, through the Immigration Control, we hopped into the bus, then into the train (if you are from the airport is free, Yeah :-)) and then with a Lyft to the new house of Nathan’s parents, where the “Welcome Dinner” should rise , After leaving our apartment at 9:30 am, we arrived at 7 pm American time (1 o’clock German time). So sleep 15 1/2 hours arriving just to spend a weekend in Boston, you can make time, right? Of course that would be a bit exaggerated, so we booked a few flights to Mexico. We wanted to explore more for a long time and why not take the opportunity, if you are already in the vicinity 😉 But more on this, now for the first time to our weekend in Bosten!
Arrived we were first a bit diagonally eyed (we were probably synonymous, if suddenly two completely tired-looking people with huge backpacks would burst a wedding party ;-)) but after Nathan had spotted us, we were greeted warmly (and slightly disbelieving) And could make us something fresh. Nathan’s parents and brothers we already knew, but now we were also introduced to Liza’s parents + siblings, felt 30 uncles, aunts, cousins and cousins. There were also some friends from Texas with whom we should share a house with a friend of Liza’s parents. All in all way too many names, but a typical open-minded greeting for the Americans!
At about 10pm, we took our two hosts (Janis and Dom + daughter Gisele) and the 4 Texans (Brandon + Melina, Braxton and Alan) to our villa (the house is difficult to describe differently). Kerstin had already crossed her fatigue point and fell directly into the bed, Tobi sat down with the Texans with a beer on the porch, before also his eyes fell. Jetlag was definitely not too bad to be expected 😉
Even if we were both quite at the same time in the middle of the night at 3 o’clock (9 o’clock German time), the jet lag the next day actually almost disappeared and we could look forward well to the big wedding (around 4 pm) with nearly 200 guests , At the same time, we were getting closer to the Texans. The wedding itself was on a fruit farm including small lake and horse-drawn carriages. In any case super nice, if for our circumstances relatively kitschy with all the speeches, but still very exciting. Everything in any way as one imagines, but nevertheless individually with some nice details. When most of the older guests were gone, there was a camp fire for the younger ones, but around 11pm it was over.
The next day there was a brunch with Liza’s parents. The two are architects and have already built homes for the Clintons and Obama, so you can imagine what the house looked like. There we could also hand over our homemade Haribo-Augustiner jugs 😉
In the afternoon we drove with Alan to Harvard Square in Boston where we were invited by Dom and Janis to a (sinfully expensive) dinner. After our flight at 6 o’clock in the morning and we had to get up at 3 o’clock and had to leave, we went to bed quite soon.
In summary, a great experience with some new (hopefully lasting) friendships!
